Since the cams were put in, the car would idle at ~10" (according to the gauge) and that number would sometimes go to 5" or less depending on how hot the engine is and whether or not the heat/air was on. A few times i've almost rolled into traffic with the brakes all the way down and the car still moving!!!
First tried using a vacuum canister, but that didn't help at idle at all so I got a vacuum pump from Comp Cams through Jegs http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/5500/10002/-1&parentProductId=945586

Just put it in and it does make some noise but it's not bad especially since you can barely hear it over the car itself lol...

Still getting ~10" of vac on the gauge with the manifold vacuum line plugged off. The pump works off a relay, and is wired into an add-a-fuse in the passenger kick panel. The pump itself is mounted on the firewall next to the battery, I'll have pictures tomorrow... racing 1/4 mile tonight!!!!!!!! The air is cool, it's going to be faaaast. It's good to have solid brakes again.

edit: here's pictures

The kit came with rubber mounts, but that made it stick out too far and rest on the fuel rail.

Not to get off topic, but that is the exact reason I went with the VSR Stage 2 cams rather than the SPR Stage 2 cams. When I spoke to Comp Cams prior to puchasing my cams, they warned me about the potential for poor idle quality/low vacuum/braking performance issues with the SPR Stage 2 cams. For a daily driver, they suggested the VSR Stage 2 or SPR Stage 1 to prevent those problems.

ahh good to know...

The only things left to do with the pump is install an 'oh shit' master switch in case the relay fails I'll flip a switch and turn on the pump, and maybe mount a vac only gauge on the firewall cover for monitoring.

I am looking into this when i get the car back with the cams. Altough i have a manual so dont really have to worry about the car rolling out at a stop. But might just do a vacuum canister and not a pump.

yep i've been having the same issue. i did order a new vacuum canister in hopes that it will help. i was pretty sure i was going to have to install a pump as well. gotta try the can first before i spend $300 though.

If you want strong brakes at idle, the can won't cut it unfortunately.

Just curious but what about using a vacuum pump off a Ford diesel pickup? I ask because I will be in the same boat with my Livernois Stage 3 blower cams(same as comp stage 2) and I am going for more of a "stock" look.

Depends... what activates it? This comp pump came with a vacuum switch that turns on the pump when the vac drops below 18" and then shuts it off when it gets to 22".

Personally I think the comp pump is very camoflauged.... I'm not trying to be a spokesman for comp though :)

Same concept, 12volt motor just need the vacuum switch to turn the motor on and off which can be found easily enough unless there is something odd in the wiring that I am missing

Braking at idle (traffic kind of stuff) didn't change for me, that's what I was looking to fix.
