since your running an auto, the no HO kit will be good. Now you could invest that 5-6k into other bolt ones, suspension and some tires and get into the 12.50 range w/o stressing the motor with boost.

Remember the old saying gotta pay to play.

Once you step up into the boosted world, getting more power is just a belt and pulley away. Then before to long it pops and now you need to build a motor, then up the wick some more, etc etc. Soon your car isn't street worthy.

I suggest, lose some weight before race nights, some good strip only tires, cams, stall, lca, adjustable uca, pan hard, springs, shocks, and pullies. Maybe find an off road x pipe to swap out on the weekends also.

We sell the Whipple HO kit with installation and a custom dyno tune for $7,500.00. I would rather have the HO kit over the 400 HP kit because it is intercooled.

If your goal is 400-420 RWHP with the auto and you don't want to build the bottom end, you may want to consider an intercooled Magnacharger kit which we sell for $5,495.00 installed and tuned.

The package includes:
  • Magnacharger MP-112 5th Generation Supercharger
  • Water-to-Air Intercooler
  • Cast Aluminum Intake Manifold
  • Extruded Aluminum Fuel Rails
  • Larger Capacity Fuel Injectors
  • Custom Dyno Tuning
  • Professional Installation
Optional 3 year/36,000 Mile Powertrain Warranty (+ $200)
Click HERE to view warranty details.

Keep in mind, the system itself typically retails for $5,600.00

Dyno results are as follows:
2005 Mustang GT Auto - Stock Baseline - 239 RWHP / 255 RWTQ

After Installing the Magnacharger w/ 3.3" (6.5 lb. pulley) (no other mods) - 376 RWHP / 350 RWTQ

Same vehicle w/ 3.0" (8.5 lb. pulley) - 391 RWHP / 386 RWTQ (This car ran a best ET of 14.2 stock and 12.2 with only the supercharger on 20 inch wheels.)

2006 Mustang GT Manual - Baseline w/ Mac Axle-back and 4.10 gear - 271 RWHP / 289 RWTQ

After Installing the Magnacharger w/ 3.1" (8 lb. pulley) (no other mods) - 427 RWHP / 394 RWTQ

2007 Mustang GT Manual - Baseline w/ Corsa Axle-back and CAI - 283 RWHP / 296 RWTQ

After Installing the Magnacharger w/ 3.3" (6.5 lb. pulley) (no other mods) - 409 RWHP / 401 RWTQ

Below you will find each of the dyno graphs.

bringing this back from the dead lol

rick thats a hell of a deal, might be worth it to research that even more. basically what i was look for, was to have a S/C kit thats more on the safe side, and i would probably want a safe tune. if it could put me the 12.50 range as well, thats perfect as thats. and then eventually, maybe build the motor up and up the boost to get into the 11.60 range but that wouldnt happen for a long long time

but i had another question before i noticed ricks post. With the FRPP kit, once i got installed and tuned, would my SCT X3 become obsolete?

Shaffe,
I actually have my whipple ho listed in the classifieds for $5500 shipped with everything but the gt500 fuel pump setup, but does include my predator programmer and my GI Joe 8 rib kit which is $699 by itself. This is the 10 psi intercooled kit, but you can purchase a bigger pulley from GI Joe for lower boost, but at least your system would be ready when you are for more boost. I'm running 10-11psi on a dead stock motor with no problems. All you will need is the GT500 pump setup which is $600 through Forward Performance and a custom tune for lower boost. I see you are in IL, so you might even be able to meet part way to save another $150.

so with the 400HP kit and the right tire suspension i should be close to the 12.50 mark. sounds good to me. and that S/C kit is pretty reliable?

im one to do lots of research on stuff form alot of angles.
I was asking the same stuff,a month ago befor installing my non intercooled KB....you'll love it,go ahead and do it...KB is way cheaper...I love mine.I'm getting the intercooler soon,it's addictive

Well people with Whipple HO's run 11.5's give or take so I would think the non-intercooled Whipple would run 12.50's easily.

I love my whipple and it has been 100% reliable for me over the last 12k miles on my DD. Clutch on the other hand sucks but that is another story.

I would recommend installing it yourself. The non-int whipple kit looks to be the easiest there is IMO.

Good Luck.

What are you running that's got your clutch wearing out? How much boost and rwhp?

What is the issue with the HO frpp kit in an automatic car?
The only thing I see the the trans cooler would be in the way, but that can easily be relocated. What else is it. I would like the Whipple HO kit, but I have an auto.

I have the Whipple HO in my Auto and have the 3.625 pully and that gives about 8 psi and comes with the HO kit for an auto. No problems at all, but I don't drag race it because it a ways away and I would probably get thrown off because it's a vert. Have to have a roll bar if you run under 13.99 which I'm pretty sure I can.

Boost isn't required for 12.5s. As-is, my car is a good launch away from 12.5x with no more added power. I have Tokico D-specs and a line-lock kit waiting for install (hopefully i'll have time in the next few weeks to do them). I'm hoping for 12.5x once I get my launches stable. The main thing hindering me now (I believe) is a not-so-happy rear diff that prevents me from doing even burnouts. With the DRs, this is causing really unreliable launches. Hoping the line-locks cure this.

I'll see how everything goes for the next year or so and eventually I'll move to the Detroit TrueTrack rear diff. I keep saying I'll be happy with solid 12.5s but deep down, I really want to see what a stall will do. PI multi-disk 3200 keeps calling out to me (I'd do a deep transmission pan at the same time).

I'm by no means hating on FI because if you see my mod path...you'll notice some of the things I'm doing/planning are in preparation for a Whipple in case I ever decide to take that plunge. I've other more complex decisions to make before that happens.

My stock clutch held up a while but started to slip. I bought a RST but after 3k miles I couldn't shift to first or reverse. Problem turned out to be a burr on the input shaft.

I run 10psi generaly on a whipple HO and made 484rwhp 469rwtq on the VMP dyno.

I'd go with the HO kit and run a 6 or 8 psi pulley with the auto and make some decent power. I LOVE my HO kit at 10 psi

Ours took a lot of abuse at the track and on the street before it started to slip, then we installed a TCI Super Street Fighter. You have to keep in mind though, it's a 10-second car and driven hard all the time.

I destroyed mine while I was still n/a.

I've got a line on a NIB/never installed Gen II 400hp kit. If your interested I can hook you and the seller up. He's looking to sell now though.
