I fixed the grinding noise but I have some qestions. That separator plate was allready knd of wide open,al the fay aroud but where the bolts were.Is that supposed to be like that?
I gues I dont have to worry about shit getting in there because it was allready wide open. There is a slot on the bottom.and a hole on the back side!Is that for ventilation or something?I figured that that plate was supposed to be closed and the only openings shod be the slot on the bottom and that hole on the back so i sealed the rest of the gaps with gasket maker. Is that the right thing to do?
the photos are a litle crapy but i took them with my phone

The gasket maker was not necessary. There doesn't need to be any kind of seal there, the separator plate is just a buffer between the engine and transmission.

It wont hurt dough right? It looked like to big of gap after the washers to be normal, even on a FORD LOL.I sealed it just in case!I'm pritty sure that the slot and the hole at the back were the ones that were ment to be open

maxpayne, nothing you did will cause
any problems and if your rattling is
gone then it's good to go.

the holes in the second pic are fine, no
need to do anything with them....

Looking at those pics, I swear it looks like someone but the flast washers on the wrong side. All the standard shift cars I've had in the past, the dust cover was flat against the block and the opening were for (in worst case, clutch debris to get out) water or fluids (incase of bad rear main seal. Not sure what the purpose of "spacing" the dust cover would serve.

Stopped the fly wheel grinding against it,because the one of them expends or shrinks(not sure which one) when cold and rubs till it worms up.Well, the grinding is not there any more(that was the purpose of spacing it and since the noise is gone thats as far as I care) but you point/question again?I didn't really got it.

I didn't get the purpose of having to "space" anything. Maybe I'm missing something.......lol. have you changed trannys, clutch, bellhousing. I just saw where you had "spacers" between the dust (as far as I could tell from pics) and the engine block. I just thought that kind of strange. I have owned (and worked on most) many cars that had "sticks" but never had to do anything like spacing. i will go back reread the thread and see if I missed something.

Okay went back and reread "my post", what I meant was put washers between the dustcover and the bell housing. still can't figure that one out. there sould be nothing between the dust cover and the bell housing/ tranny case. I am befuddled why that is like that.

Do you have an earlier post talking about the "grinding noise"

Terry the plate rattles and hench why he is spacing it out, to insulate it.

I have this same problem, I'm glad I can cheaply fix it myself once the deep freeze ends.

Good fix! I need to take a look at mine in the spring.
It took me like not even 30 min and thats with jacking up on jackstands and then wraping the tools up LOL.Really easy. But some other members that fixed that, those bolts were missing on their cars.Like they never were there!Just holes with threads but no bolts. If your car is like that, the bolt that you'll need to get is M10 1.5pitch 3/4" long
