Baumannator TCS install questions

I'm in the middle of wiring my TCS unit . I have a question about the TPS and VREF connections . On my unit it calls for the orange wire to be connected to the TPS VREF and the Green wire to be connected to the the signal from the TPS. There are 4 pins in the connector for the TPS, they are as follows.

1 YE/WH THROTTLE POSISION SENSOR SIGNAL
2 RD/LG THROTTLE POSISION SENSOR REFERENCE VOLTAGE
3 BK/LG SIGINAL RETURN
4 GY/WH THROTTLE POSISION SENSOR SIGINAL

Now with that said is number 2 the VREF and number 3 the return from the TPS ?

Also the directions have a white wire marked starter relay and another marked Ign. start. I understand these are for the neutral safety switch , but want to double check my research . I am planning on connecting the wire marked starter relay to C1035B pin E10 WH/PK and the ign start to C1035B pin B9 WH/PK .

Keep in mind on some models , depending on trans , these last two wire may be RD/LB or a combination of both but, the pins should be the same .

There is a wire under the dash that you should actually connect it to. If you look at the pinout for the pedal, I believe it is a blue/white wire on pin 6 or something. This was the way Kevin at Baumann recommended it be wired but I still wired mine to the TPS harness, that runs along the passenger fuel rail. If you want to put it under the hood, you will wire it to the variable voltage, signal wire. I forget the color but it is easily found with a volt meter. It should read around 1v at closed throttle and 4.5v or so at full throttle. If I remember, we wired the park/neutral start wires to the factory clutch pedal wiring (should be in my thread) but if your car was a factory automatic, it will be a little different.

It looks like pin 6 could be used for the VREF and pin 3 could be used for the return signal. The directions call for it to be the return signal from the TPS , these are the VREF and Signal return for the accelerator pedal. Would this be the same signal and voltage as the TPS sensor ?

Just make sure you get the correct wire, check it with a volt meter. If you accidentally hook it to a 5v constant, you will only have reverse and manual 1st/2nd, you will have no lockup, 3rd or OD. Once it is hooked up, you have to calibrate the unit to recognize what closed throttle and WOT voltages are.

Kevin is the guy who builds them.

I installed one on my 95 when I did the 5sp to auto swap. Not that bad, but had to tap into the computer and solder something like 15 wires.

Programming was a breeze, very easy to use system.

I would recommend connecting it to the pedal instead of the TPS.

Remember these cars throttle is torque demand based, not pedal followers, so TPS values are not directly related to the APP ones.

One of the APPs voltage (out of my mind can't remember which one) raise the voltage, the other comes down as you depress the pedal, it runs from below 1V to just over 3V, the TCM will let you configure those values.

Since I only connected 120,000 wires today and did not finish, I have the time to call Kevin tomorrow . Wow I am worn out . Nothing like laying on your side and upside down all afternoon to make you feel old. LOL! Keep in mind , all my wires are under the pass. side dash now . The engine bay is empty.

I know exactly how that feels. It was nice to get everything finished on the outside. Though, I spent quite a bit of time with my head in the floorboard and feet on the headrests, lol!

I called Kevin today and he said it was best to use the connection at the accelerator pedal because the one at the TPS sensor is controlled buy the PCM and the voltage can vary at idle due to the PCM being able to adjust the TB blade at idle . By connecting at the accelerator peddle you are going to always have a steady voltage at idle . He did not know which wire it was of the top of his head but, said to use a volt meter and check for the signal wire that has the widest range of voltage movement and that is the one I want to connect the green wire to (marked TPS in the direction). He also said on our cars the wire orange wire (marked VREF in the directions) does not need to be connected .

After I find which wire it is on the accelerator pedal I will post it here.

If I am not wrong, two goes up and one comes down as pedal travel, one way to check would be via a datalog but nothing like actually measuring them with a VOM, the both raising (obviously do not take the downslope one) have a similar slope so any of those should work, I would go with the one that shows the higher voltage@WOP.

If I am not wrong again, I think the couple of times I've done this, we used the APP2 (wh).

The main issue is not the idle itself (that varies in these cars because there is no IAC) because the throttle angle used to keep the torque for idling is very low, the biggest problem is when you are part throttling and if your drive by wire tables are properly calibrated the TPS do not relate to what you are doing with the APP, also some torque modulation that may happen within the calibration can close down the throttle (transmission tables, traction control, etc.) and induce an unwanted upshift/downshift in the process.

This pin 6 is a BR/WH wire that says reference voltage.

Can anyone confirm which wire would be used for WOT voltage ?

I know these can be checked after the power is there but, I would like to finish all the final wiring on the car today before turning the power back on .

I am on a vacation and do not have a car or the manuals with me to help you look but went thru some emails of the first one we tried and we used pin 5 (no mention on wire color), do you have a friend with another mustang, you could power and measure? that one showed around 1.4V at idle and raised to 3.5 at WOP.

Just for future refference, the pin 5 wire at the pedal is the TPS connection and the pin 6 is the VREF.

I'm at the programing stage of this. I am haveing an issue. If I select a gear the controller isn't seeing it. In the pics below the boxes marked Range and trans temp are showing error codes. When I select a gear the Range box should show the gear selected, but instead I get this.

P = P
R = eerLo
N = eerLo
D = eerLo
2 = P
1 = P

These should match the selected gear.

Also the trans temp should show the actual trans temp and it says "eerHi"

Any ideas?

I talked to Kevin at Baumann Engineering and he said since the range and the temp. are both showing error codes that it almost has to be a grounding issue since that is the only circut those two items share. I will recheck the grounds tonight.
