Got an issue and need some serious insight

You could have rebuilt the turbo for not much more than 100$ in parts. Hell the newer turbos are balanced independently of the shaft and independently of each-other. In either case, using a marker could have saved you the doubt. Just saying as the bearing and seal kits generally go for...

Third oil change, tick came back after being gone.

No to stir the pot, nor trying to discount the complaints. However all OHC engines have some form of a tick. Some are due to lower viscosity oil or extended oil changes some are due to manufacturing tolerances. I can say this, the 3v sounds like a freaking sewing machine. The 5.0 ticks...

what is normal for a mt82

Every manual gearbox has its own quirks, im not talking just model, im talking same model, year engine configuration. The clutch will be different as well. Mine is a 12 with the mt86, first few miles its stiff and does not like to be shifted smoothly. You have to power into gear. I did notice...

HELP! 2013 GT rear passenger brake major issue!

Not sure if you resolved the issue. However the bolt you have on the caliper is incorrect to my eye. The bold used has a flatter head, at least it did on my 07. That bolt is refereed to as a banjo bolt, it is cross drilled and center drilled. It usues two washers, (usually one time use copper)...

3v motor - what is this liquid/goo in head intake runners - PICS!

JUst an FYI, Varnish is usually gasoline. Does it smell like furniture varnish at all? If it does, then the engine was soaked in gasoline. As for costs, if just a cleanup your looking at 600-1000bux in parts alone. Depending on the condition of the cylinder walls and the machine work involved...

control arm failure at the track this weekend

WTF is that supposed to mean? I am a bit thick in the head sometimes. Don't quite understand......

control arm failure at the track this weekend

My old car was totaled last year on black Friday. The first thing that broke was the ball joint, it was not about to break where the ball-joint was mounted, the actual spigot broke. Made me think the factory one is not beefy enough. I think a few mil thicker plus reaming the lower mounting hole...

control arm failure at the track this weekend

Just one question. You guys are doing well over 1g load under hard braking and possibly turning while braking. The one thing that this brings to mind, its all fine and good to blame bmr or blame any company making these arms. However even if the arms did not fail, the ball joint holding onto the...

Old school pushrod in an 05 mustang...

I suffered a crash last year in november. I was t-boned at over 50mph, my car ended up sliding against the curb breaking the wheels and lower front ball joint on the lca, also took chunk of concrete out the sidewalk. The watts survived without an issue. No bent bolt, no sliding clamps, nothing...

Aluminum flywheel vs iron for my Coyote swap?

Drill out the rivets and tap it. get an insert kit and put it on. Or drill out the rivets and replace and re rivet the insert.

    '11/'12 and '13 block differences

The oil squirters are a great thing to have. However they create windage problems at high rpm. This engine is a relatively high rpm engine so they eliminated them, when they realized they will never turbocharge this thing from factory. However being that this 5L engine has such great breathing...

2011 piston failure diagnosis discussion w/pics

That cylinder was running hotter than the rest? The injectors are not perfect? Manufacturing defect? Could be many things. I think its shock loading still. Harmonics are not necessarily eliminated nor are they completely dampened by the harmonic dampener. In any case, I could be way off base.

Brembo GT500 brake kit on a GT. Is it worth it?

I noticed this thread in the back. Not sure if its dead or not. But I also had an 07 that I did the gt500brake setup (1100$) at the time from late model restoration. Included everything but fluid. I have to say it was the best upgrade I could have ever done. The stock 07 brakes I had I warped...

2011 piston failure diagnosis discussion w/pics

That's why shift firmness needs to be softened the higher the gears go. For every gear up your increasing load dramatically on the engine, with higher load you get higher cylinder pressures and with higher pressures the metal deforms until it deforms enough to either crack or cause an imbalance...

2011 piston failure diagnosis discussion w/pics

Unfortunetly, I do not have the answer to this. But the balancer would not be a bad thing. However I still don't think the balancer would completely cure this. I believe that properly balancing and weight matching of pistons/rods/and crank counterbalancers would cure it. In short, the rotating...

2011 piston failure diagnosis discussion w/pics

Seems like its more likely related to harmonics. The pistons would have pitting and burned off edges if it was detonation. First thing I thought to myself, wonder what the tops look like. IMHO this was not due to fuel, or detonation. It was due to harmonics, how fast was it spinning when it...

    Brake line / fluid questions?

dot5 is not traditional brake fluid. Its made like oil. I belive its made with silicone sub-straights or some other chemistry. Its great for classics as its not hygroscopic and has basically indefinite shelf life. However you cant bleed all the bubbles out out of it ever, and it does not mix at...

    Oil temperature

For one oil temp and pressure go hand in hand. If your monitoring the temp with a real gauge, then go ahead and install a pressure gauge too. Take it out for a spin and see what the pressure is at normal operating temp. I would not be surprised to see the engine under normal driving be in the...

    5w-30 or 0w-30 in a 5.0?

I put 6 quarts in my 07 and put 8 quarts in my 2012. Dipstick says its at full mark. The main reason I buy in large quantities when on sale is because I need more than 5 quarts. I wish ford put in a 10 quart sump from the factory, it would make things much simpler as well as give me more...

    5w-30 or 0w-30 in a 5.0?

To be honest I see this question asked allot. I doubt it will have any appreciable effect on ticvt or bearings or oil squirters or anything else. Personally I use a 5-20 because its what is commonly available and brandx (not mentioning brand) of full synth goes on sale every few months so I...

    BROKE 3rd, Need Help

Im curious. Why not rebuild it with stock gears but before you do have the gears cryotreated. Sounds like a bad casting to me, the fact the syncros held up, and the fork is fine gives some indication of a casting flaw. Usually gears strip like that only after the fork and syncros got mangled and...

Panhard bar selection help. All seem the same essentially.

Sway Bars and Lowering for cornering.

I really feel the opposite. I feel that the springs are not the issue here. To me the only major components that need attention at least on a 5.0L are the shocks & phb, although much improved over first gen s197, still do not control the springs well. The second thing is getting the last of the...

    e85

Well in general poor business practices. Could be isolated cases. Or a sign that the shop is having trouble meeting customer demand. In any case, google is your friend if you want to do some reading.

    e85

Last I heard VMP was doing tuning for e85 on 3v engines. Gains were 8-10whp and 8-10lb of torque to the wheels. Not bad. However the fuel economy suffred 15% - 18%. That's a smaller loss than flex fuel cars. However I have been seeing some not so nice things said about them recently....
