A friend of mine has mentioned that the 2010 GT front brakes are an easy upgrade to the 2005-2009 models. Has anyone done this and does it throw off the brake balance?

I need new brakes for the street and I'm also getting ready to buy a set of track pads/rotors.

I need to ask him again, it looks like the 2010 brakes are the same. Maybe he meant the 2011 brakes?

the rotor diameter was bigger on the standard brakes for the 2011+ years IIRC...the standard being the 05-09 gt rotors were 12" while the newer cars got a 13"? rotor up front. the mounting brackets were the only other thing to change. the calipers were the same i believe.

if your talking about the brembos then they are a 14"rotor with the brembo caliper.

Yeah, Kevin is on the right path. 2011 GT's get 13.2" rotors, but the same caliper and pads. The 2011 V-6 got the 2005-2010 GT's brakes. GT500's and the 2011 "brembo" cars have 14" front brakes with the Brembo calipers.

2010 GT brakes are not any different than 2005-2010 GT brakes.

Speaking of brakes, does anyone make aftermarket performance rotors for the 2011 GTs without the Brembo package? I can't find them anywhere.

Same question as above. I bought some replacement rotors through a Ford dealership that were garbage. I had to take them off after 3 track days because of cracking. Not liberty bell type stuff, but the crazing seemed to be more than just on the surface, so I decided not to take my chances any further. I put the factory rotors back on which had seen three times as many track days and 6K DD miles without a trace of stress. I smell a Chinese rotor rat.

Did it say on the rotors where they were made?

FYI - my Ford Brembo rotors say "Made in Italy"

nice pics, those aren't stock Ford rotors, where did you get them ? I see the Ford part numbers on the brackets, are the 13" 2011 GT rotors no good ?

Anyone have a weight on the 13" rotors?

Makes me curious; 17" wheels and cheaper consumables certainly sounds appealing over the big Brembos..

+/- caliper replacement WHEN you overheat them, spread the bridge, and then taper-wear you new track pads. :mad2:

Seriously, the Brembo setup has a HUGE pad surface area in comparison to the stock PBR-style, which means that they will last a LOT longer. The rotors do as well. Ask me how I know...

Dave doesn't have much experience with brakes; don't take his word for it.:thud:

Seriously, he's run through a bunch of GT calipers, and who knows how many types of pads. When it comes to evaluating real-world expenses, listen to him.

I don't have a figure on the 13" rotor, but I've no reason to think they're terribly lighter than the older 12.4" rotors. As an FYI (measured on my shipping scale):
- 12.4" OEM GT rotor: 18 lbs
- 14" 2-pc. Stoptech AeroRotor: 17.5 lbs
- Stoptech 1-pc. 14" AeroRotor: 23 lbs
- GT500 14" 1-pc. rotor: 25 lbs

Before folks get all giddy over that 2-pc set up, I'll just say you pay for it.

Best,,

Yeah I currently have GT500's with 2-piece Aerorotor$. Never tracked the car with stock brakes, and for some reason I thought they were 11.4" and not 12.4", which probably won't make much of a difference driving in anger..

I just finished my 7th track day for this year which is my fourth season tracking my 08 GT. The pads, Carbotech XP10, and Ford factory rotors were new at the start of the season. I also run a Quantum front brake cooling kit.

There is still life on the pads. The rotors look and feel fine with no visible cracks or signs of distress. I'd say that was pretty good bang for the buck.

For the winter I'll put the GT500 pads back in that came with the kit.

For next season I'll replace the pads and rotors with new ones and change out the fluid which is ATE Super Blue/Typ 200.

To give you an idea of hard the car is driven here is a video;

i have a baer setup(14") which is the 2pcs rotors with the corvette PBR calipers(going to be replaced with some 4 pistons soon)but for someone looking into a small brake upgrade without spending the big bucks the 13" rotor/bracket is a nice upgrade. add some good fluid, the SS lines and a nice set of pads and its not too bad, especially since it shouldnt cost more than $300 for everything(and that should be a high estimate)...

oh and +1000000 on the 2pc being rediculous....i just spend close to 700$ on a new set of blank rings for my baer 2pcs. let alone the hardware kit...

What's the difference between the 2005-2010 GT with the 12.4" rotors and the 2011+ witht he 13.2 rotors if they use the same calipers? Is there a differnet mounting point for the 2011" calipers that use the bigger rotors?

Pretty positive the only difference is the rotors and caliper mounting brackets..would be a cheap and easy upgrade, if it's worth it that is.

I cant find it now when I need it, but I remember reading in a forum somewhere that someone had upgraded from 05-10 to 2011 stock brake setup needing only rotors & caliper brackets. The calipers were the same, though Ford has different part numbers. If I could absolutely verify that I'd probably buy some "2010" take off calipers as cheap backups. I make do with the std 2011 brakes with cooling ducts added for occasional track days. It's not ideal obviously, a lot of monitoring/labor required, with quicker, uneven pad wear. But for the amount I track I can't see laying out the $ for new Bimbos at this point, much less something including two-piece rotors. But maybe I'll change my mind the day my brakes don't stop me. Provided I have a car left over...
