So with the SCT TSX device out (at close to $500) I thought I would try something else. Of course the main thing for TSX is tuning and if your dont have a tuner then it would be a good buy.. but for us that have one and want to datalog without the wide screen porn filled laptop and wires all over the place I think I might have another option. I need another beta test brother though.

Before we start I will quickly give you some things I see so far.

1) can tune with it(or maybe?? engineers/programers)
2) On the wireless obd2 device I dont see any options for analog (maybe on other expensive devices) so nothing to put a wideban to, BUT there is a PID for A/F. I think the 11"+ 5.0 extra 100hp bragging fucks might be able to read theirs since its going though the ECU.
3) I need to do more testing, but some PIDs didnt update. (short fuel trims).
4) I have just started all this and need to go on a trip so I cant get into this too far for now.

Hardware

1) android Phone 2.3 android (they might have a ibitch version)
2) Soliport ELM 327 $19
3) Need to buy the TORQUE App its like 4-5 bucks.. there is a free version you can try but not sure of the limitations.

install

It comes with a mini-cd(tons of programs on it) not tried it

1) Plug the ELM 327 device in the OBDII port under the car's dashboard (it's directly inline with the steering column on my Explorer).
2) Start the car (you probably don't actually need to do this step to make it work.)
3) Go to your smartphone Wireless & Networks settings and turn Bluetooth ON.
4) Go to the the phone's Bluetooth Settings and "Scan for Devices" and look for "CBT" to be found, which is the ELM 327.
5) Pair with the this device (The code is 1234).
6) Then start the "Torque" app.
7) Go to the "Settings" in Torque and select OBD2 Adapter Settings.
8) Pick Connection Type = Bluetooth.
9) Go to Choose Bluetooth Device and pick "CBT."
10) Suggest also select "Auto Bluetooth On/Off" and "Only if BT was already off."
11) Then go back to the "Torque" main screen and things should be working!

Setup

Hit the menu button and you should see all the options to set car info( type, engine, weight and tons more. Then you will see data logging and uplode. You want to "Select what to log" - here you will pic the PIDS you want. Then you can scroll to File logging and have it load to their web base server which is pretty cool and free.

You have to go to ian-hawkins.com and register. They will send you a password and from then on you can access all your logs and it will display them without a need for a csv. viewer.

OR

when you datalog you can e-mail your csv. to any address.

Now what threw me off was where the F to start the data log and view it. The answer is on the main screen you have some options there.

Click on Realtime Information- at the top it will let you know if its talking to the ECU. Also you will see gauges with basic info.. These are preset and you can wipe them out if you want..

Basically here is where you can view everything BUT you have to make a guage for it. The PIDS you selected to datalog will see get saved either way, but if you want to see it in real time on the phone you have to make a gauge. That is very easy. You just hold a blank area and "ADD DISPLAY" then you pick the gauge type you want and and then what PID value you want it for..

Once you done fucking around, the car is started and your ready to log, then ON THAT SCREEN in the menu option on your phone you will see start logging, e-mail log and other options. You hit it again later to stop and e-mail. Thats basically it. All for about $25 bucks

I haven't used this for such tech data logging but I have to say that app is clutch. I bought a cheap eBay Bluetooth obd adapter and this thing is worth every penny for the ability to read/clear the codes. I've done the trip logging and it will plot all the data onto a Google map as long as you have GPS on your cell enabled.
