Here's a few pictures of my new toy............

It's a NASA Spec Iron Race Car, the class started last year.

Basically only 2005-2011 4.6L Mustang GT's are allowed with a minimum of mods to the car to keep the costs under control.

Ford Racing sponsors the class with a per race (2 races per weekend) of $250 for 1st, $200 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd with a minimum of three starters. For two starters there's $100 for 1st and $50 for 2nd.

I plan on attending Comp School in October.

Ran the car at Sebring last weekend and got to within .75 seconds of my best time in the Boss.

It's really a lot of fun having a car that's about 400 lbs lighter, it goes where it's pointed with a lot confidence.

Here's a link to the rules, you can build a car for ~25K, less if you already have a car.

Wow, that's cheap!

I was reading the rules. Am I correct that you are limited to a stock 3v. Manifold to oil pan to manifolds?

I'm planning on building a nice simple track day car that I can race every once in a while this winter. I was going to go Coyote but I have a shedload of 3v stuff. Guess I could go that direction. I wouldn't cheat or anything when I put the motor together.....I promise.:roflmao:

This spec has my name all over it. I didn't want to spend a ton of money and I want it to be dead simple.

How light do you suppose you can get one of them? I could run it light with 315's at track days and add ballast for the real events (the few that I did). I would strip the car down to the tub and then build it back up. I can mod/cut up/weld/lighten/fabricate just about anything that can be dreamed of and fit in the rules (with 908SSP's help). I'm wondering with a 10/10th effort if it could get down to 2800-2900#??? Anyone know?

I didn't see in the rules where it said anything about hoods. Can you run a aftermarket or modded stock hood with vents?

Looks like fun. Nice buy.

6.2 Weight
[FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman][FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]The absolute minimum weight for SI cars is 3350 pounds with driver.

So....the way I read this is if you want your car to weigh 2800lbs, that means YOU GET TO WEIGH 550lbs !!!!! Yum yum yum yum yum.

I wanna know where he is getting a cage done for $2000. Only a couple people that do them around here and you will pay between $4 and $5k for a cheap one.

The PDF says Toyo RA1 275/35-18 on 18x9.5's. Which one is it
it's a spec tire and size 275/38/18 toyo rr tire . any wheel 18x9.5 and greater then 26 lbs

Am I correct that the rules say no trans or rear end coolers can be used
no coolers are open. oil,ps,trans and diff....

keep in mind the 3 years of racing the factory built mustang challenge fr500s cars. came with no trans coolers and no diff coolers..... Unless your doing long races they are not needed in my opinion. I've been racing for years without them and no problems from a trans or diff from heat issue but if you want the extra costs and weight have at it
