So I searched and read over the 6-8 threads they have about the advantages and disadvantages of both but still not what I am looking for...

I will be installing a Turbo here shortly and would like to do a different setup than most. I plan on putting a KB or Whipple Lower Intake with Air to Water Intercooler system in it. I can get a hat made to bolt the throttlebody up so I'm not worried about that. After having the KB on my car for so long I think it did a damn good job of keeping the IAT's in check even with 21 psi. and beating up in it on the street with that amount of boost.

Questions:
What are the pre-intercooler temps of a Twinscrew Supercharger at higher boost?
Will the intercooler core from a KB or Whipple kit be able to cool the air charge from a 76mm turbo running around 15 psi. on the street and 25 psi at the track?
Does this seem like a good idea or am I really tired and sounding dumb?

I think this setup will be close to the best of both worlds as I can get a intercooler kit designed for the car and can bolt up. I will have to modify a couple pipes to fit my new way but that still isn't a big deal to me. I have seen where Air to Air cars can have IAT's as high as 270* at higher boost levels and do not want that for my car. I am dead set against Methanol/Alcohol Injection due to the risk of something going wrong and toasting a motor due to a $25 pump.

Please give me some ideas as I am already looking to buy this setup and have it waiting for when the rest of the car is done. I have also already looked into the other designed Air to Water kits and I have found that it will cost me more to piece a kit together than purchase the designed kit. My car will still see some street time so I would need to include a heat exchanger into this system which is already there on the Twinscrew kits. I will also have it where I can by-pass the heat exchanger at the track.

Sorry so long,
BJ

I like the Dez Racing stuff but they do not fabricate lower intakes...atleast that I know of...That is the reason I want to start off with a Twinscrew Lower Intake and build up...The intake and intercoolers have proven themselves with the high boost cars...I will try and call Dez Racing to see if they can make a full intake system...I figure anything around the price of a JPC plus maybe another $500 - $1000 on top it would be worth it to me...I should have some pricing of the Whipple lower sometime this week and will base my decision off that...

I wanna say it's Chris?, I believe is his name....the black turbo car on here that is pretty fast...I have a pic somewhere of his car...

He is running an air/water setup, but it is mounted behind the bumper...IMO, that's a better idea then to run the cooler like a KB or Whipple...

I would do the JPC unit or something like it. We built a custom tank to use that setup. I will be buying the intercooler soon!

If this is the one you are talking about JPC Front Mount then I would have to say no thanks. I have priced building the same unit and it was less than half the price. I think he makes awesome parts but his prices are high. I think if Dez Racing can do what I want then it will be pretty sweet and one of a kind.

x2.

If you use the KB or Whipple lowers, you give up intake runner length. You will make more average power from the factory intake or any aftermarket with a JPC air to water than using an ultra-short runner intake like the KB and Whipples.

I really do not think 25 psi will have a problem with a short runner intake. All twinscrew intakes are short runner with the exception of the Saleen. I'm thinking a bottom fed intake with longer runners anyway. The twinscrew intake will be something that I will put on to get the car going again and then will build my own if I have to.

Well I got some pricing on the Whipple Lower with Intercooler at a very good deal. I think I will start with the Whipple setup and if I don't like the turbo then all I have to do is buy a compressor and be back where I started again just with a different twinscrew.

I use the jps air to water and works great. But if You remember evo's blue gt 500 that ran in the 7's used twin 67's and a stock gt500 lower for an intercooler and always had good iat's I think its a great idea. All that would have to be done is a custom top hat and maybe a twin fan heat exchanger and call it a day. you should be fine!!

Talk to Mike at Powerhouse. He built a 5.4 setup exactly like you are talking about, he used the GT500 lower and made a hat for the top with T/B mount.

Maybe apples and oranges, but I had A/A with a vortech and it did a great job of keeping IATs low, within 20* of ambient worst-case, and within 2-5* normal street driving.

With my KB blower with air/water, IATs read about 40-60* higher than ambient worst case (with no fan drawing air over the heat exchanger though).

Interesting idea...keep us posted.
