Two questions:
1) Can the entire engine release crankcase pressure with one breather capped off?
I have a ProCharger and the install has you cap off the passenger side PCV breather. I had the car at the track (road course) and one of the Ford Racing factory drivers (Ford was giving Boss 302 rides at VIR for charity) looked at my engine and said this was "very bad". He said pressure would build up on that side of the engine and could do damage. I called ProCharger and they said it wouldn't be a problem. As long as both sides share the same air-space I don't think it should be a problem, but I wonder if anyone knows for sure.
2) Can someone recommend an oil catch-can / separator that vents to the atmosphere?
The same Ford Racing driver showed me the breather setup in their Boss 302S. Tubes from both breathers met at a T and then into a fairly large (3" wide x 4" tall) can, bolted just in front of the firewall, that vented to the air. The JLT separators won't work for me because I have the procharger which replaces the funky factory PCV hoses and my goal is to not vent to the intake while at the track.
Two weekends ago at the track I got black flagged due to smoke. So much oil was coming through the breather into the intake that it was collecting in the intercooler and the blowoff valve was spraying it all right in front of the left front tire (which made for some interesting braking into turn 10). After the event I changed the oil and sent a sample to BlackStone. The results came back perfect (no fuel or coolant in the oil), so I don't think I have a bigger problem, just oil from the breather.
