I just picked up a transmission from the salvage yard for $400 because I finally blew the synchro's in mine after 125k miles. I looked all over the transmission I picked up but couldn't find a VIN. I've got all the other codes from the printed sticker on the side of the transmission and the metal tag attached to one of the tailshaft bolts, but searching with any of the codes didn't get me any info. I'm just trying to figure out what car this transmission came out of so I can look it up and figure out how many miles it had on it before it got totaled and sent to the salvage yard.

Any way of finding out what I'm looking for?

Tranny won't have the vin. I'm not even sure you'd be able to to easily find out what specific car it came from referencing the numbers on the tranny. That said it doesn't matter buying a used oem tranny is hit or miss regardless of miles.
