Wow, $600 for a timing set??? I don't remember how much I paid when I did it last time but I know it wasn't anything as eye opening. Just thought I would share my sticker shock. I think I'm going to pull the cover first and see if I can get away with just ordering a couple of components as opposed to the whole set.

Yeah between chain, tensioners, phasers, followers and oil pump, etc that’s what I was expecting.

Cloyes used to make good double roller timing chains but I always thought Ford OEM was the best for the 4.6L.

Curious to hear what others have to say…

Contact Lethal Performance. They are a Ford Racing Dealer and might be able to get you a better price. Replace everything you can. Don't just do piece work. I can assure you that you will have to do the job again in the near future.

Yeah I agree... I am at 120K and every so often I hear a small tick on initial startup, so I know I have to do this in the near future.

I will definitely change everything (i.e. oil pump, followers, etc.) with OEM or performance upgrade, just trying to figure out which are best (oil pump, tensioners, etc.). I wish someone would post a detailed list of parts needed... FYI I will be sticking with stock cams & valve springs.

They sell the same camshaft drive kit for $644. That's $85 more than Summit Racing.

They also have coupons available for forum members. In other words, call they might have a better price available.

Well stopped by CJ Pony Parts and picked me up a new timing set and valve cover gaskets. Also picked up an extra FelPro main seal for the front. My las one leaked a little so I bought a different one hoping I'll have better luck.

I will probably repaint my front cover while it's off and get a new set of pulleys so I can get her back to the way she was.

What tensioner and idlers are those? Very cool!

Pulleys are from Metco I believe. I bought them as a set for the 3v and then had them swap an 80mm for a 90mm that my whipple needs. The tensioner is the Thumpracing billet arm. Its an HD unit for those with blowers.

My last call to Metco had them unavailable. If they aren't in stock I might just take them down to a machine shop and have them press out and replace the bearings.
