Does anyone else get creeped out when the Ford rep pops out of the woodwork on other sites? I have seen them help people, but damn, unnerving having big brother Orwell say howdy. I wonder how many get the shaft with the posting they have done on their car?

How do you figure that they will even have a clue who the person is unless they post their VIN? There are a lot of Mustangs out there.

When has our resident spook not been able to find a name in 5 minutes?

It just depends how their fraud unit ties into the customer service function.

I am somewhat of a cynical bastard. They might only be on to help people, but I doubt it.

I don't think Ford employs Rasmus to go snooping around for peoples timeslips or mod lists. But either way, if you want to retain the warranty, don't mod your car. I would also think that Ford would be a lot sneakier than that if their goal was really to catch people red-handed.

LOL, I haven't had a warranty for a long time.

Warranty work is big money, you can bet they have people looking at the issue. In their eyes, if you mod and blow, it is in their interests to deny the fraudulent claim. If nothing else, being on the forums can tip them to trends on how guys are managing to blow their cars.

I'm willing to bet that soon, if not already, Ford is using Sync to "spy" on the mods owners are making. I also suspect Chevrolet is doing the same with OnStar.

If not this generation, the next for sure. I can see having to buy a stand alone engine controller to mod coming down the pike. Easy to see the EPA mandating the stock computer shut the car down if an attempt to modify the code is made.

I'm with you there. Take responsibility for your actions. Not having a warranty because of something you did is very liberating. At least it was for me and my bank account.

I saw a Ducati rep show up at the raodarace track in 2005 and start writing VIN's down. He voided all the warranties on bikes that weren't stock.

It was a track day, not a race weekend. It was a dick move.

Expect all the manufacturers to do something pro-active about voiding VIN's in the future. There is a LOT of $$$$ to be saved by them.

I believe we are footsteps away from the OEM's and the governments locking down new/newer vehicles in order to prohibit any and all modifications. The gears are turning.

It's happening on a lower level where I'm from. We have an insurer who has a monopoly in my province. They dictate motor vehicle laws and regulations, not the lawmakers/government. Pretty crazy.

90% of the guys at the local auto cross days have tape over their license plates and vin numbers. apparently they have had insurance companies show up and start cancelling or adjusting policies on cars that were running

There was a member on boss site and maybe here, Capt Distraction. Ford nuked his warranty by showing him printed copies of all his postings about HPDE and such... I don't trust those Ford techs for shit and think its sucks the forums give them free reign. That is why I rarely spoke about my mods until I was past mine.
