i was talking to steve poe, he said he is filling up a catch can about 4 times the size of a jlt each session of road racing

WOW
Yall got me thinking last night, so I checked mine (JLT). I dumped it with only 1,300 miles on it and it was allready 1/4 filled up with oil on the passenger side. my driver side just had some residew.

That sounds about right. I dumped about cup of oil out of the intercooler and who know how much got sucked into the engine. I ordered the Rehagen rig and will post a picture of it once it's installed.

Old thread I know, But I just made the same thing

I need some one to explain to me how the pressure from both sides coming to one place is good. I did it because I have seen a lot of people do it. I would just like to know how it works.

Here's a pic of the can I ended up with from Rehagen. It wasn't cheap, but it's a very high quality TIG welded can that can catch about half a quart. After a couple of track sessions, I dumped about a cup and a half of oil.

Some of us have emissions requirements preventing that (along with LT headers, cat removal, etc).

For emissions just hook a hose up for inspection. Then put breathers back
That's exactly what I do. Frankly, for street driving having the PCV vent to the intake is fine. It's only on the track that significant oil is collected. Also, with a Vortech or Procharger, the air to air intercooler acts like a catch can if there's a lot of oil vapor which is the main reason I wanted a separate can.

Lol I think he's got both lines running to his JLT catch can...which is unvented.
Maybe, but I see what looks like a T hose fitting in top right of SS KILR's pic. Hopefully that vents. Besides, it was SS KILR that made the point about needing to vent.

Your right I did have them both going to an unvented jlt. That's why I asked. I didn't think it would work. However I did just order this.

Nice. Where did you order it? How much? How large is it?

I like the sight glass you can see how full it is.

POOR a system fully vented to atmosphere.

BETTER one that uses check valves between the crankcase and the atmosphere.

BETTER YET one that uses a catch can between the crankcase and the check valve and the atmosphere.

BEST a system that maintains vacuum in the crankcase, uses a catch can between the crankcase and the check valve and uses a vacuum source either the intake or a vacuum pump.

To make sure I totally understand the system, don't all these catch can setups like the JLT, Moroso, Steeda fall under 908ssp's definition of best? As I understand it: the stock PCV valve being the check valve, and the normal hose routing using the intake as the vacuum source. So the aftermarket part is simply inserting the desired catch can.

Just want to verify what I think I know.
