hey i am going to the texas mile in October and i currently have 3.55 gears and im thinking about getting 4.10s in like a week. i am wondering if this would hurt or help my top speed over 1 mile. i have been trying to figure it out my self but i just dont know because i will hit about 106 and be shifting in to 4th gear in the first 1/4 of a mile but then i have no idea how long 4th would bee and when i would be shifting to 5th or if i even would be

if i had the 4.10 i would be shifting in to 4th earlier and 5th earlier but would this help my top speed

ugg im confused on what i even started saying now

the 4.10s lower your top speed... but increase the time you can run to lower speeds... basically... you will be in overdrive (5th) by 120mph, and from there move up really slowly (comparatively)... thats the basic way of explaining it lol... check out 3.73s if you must increase your gears, and want the best of both worlds... i have 4.10s and while i love them for 1/4 mile speeds, after that i dont like them...

but what im saying is that once i hit 5th it would be slow even if i had 3.55s and over a 1 mile track i cant figure out if 3.55s would be better or 4.10s i know for an all out top speed 4.10s would be slower considerably. but i think in a mile it may be close enough to take full effect of the gearing but i cant figure it out

I think with you mods you will like the 4:10 gear better . Think of it this way it will make your 5th gear lower thus more acceleration.

Its all about the quicker accleration in the beginning that would you get you to the higher mph, will also yield quicker accel in 5th i would think as stated above. Good question though i dont think u could wind out 5th with 4.10 gears in just a mile. If u can then a lower gear will get you a higher mph theoreticaly. Just test it and find out lol and if u want 4.10 get them most of your driving is 0-100mph anyways.

It depends on his tire size.

With 275/40 18" and a 3.55 gear top speed is 215mph @ 6500rpm.
With the same combination and a 4.10 gear the top speed is 186mph @ 6500rpm

Le's not forget that drag is a huge factor

ok, say it is 186...you're gonna need about 15k more into that car to get ANYWHERE close to that powerwise....

regardless, 4:10s will get you a faster trap speed and you will get there quicker than with 3:55s...period (this is directed towards the OP)

my tires are 255/45/18

the thing about the top speed is that it does not specify how long it takes to get there.

1 mile comes much quicker than you think going thos speeds. im only wanting to get 140 maby 150 and i would be happy

im just dont want to get there and realize that 4.10 are to short for one mile and not get to that speed.

i am going to be striping the call of all the weight i can so that should help some and im also hopeing to have headers by the time i go

waht would my 5th gear ratio be with 4.10 because i know my car doesent pull to hard in 5th as is

ugg this is to much thinking

You should be able to reach a higher top speed with 4.10s because of torque multiplication. You will have a better chance against the drag with lower gears. And IMO you will never regret the switch. I have gone 140 in fourth, but not sure how much distance was covered to get there. I will start the bidding at 155 mph.

150 is sounding more correct than 120 in 4th

god it would be crazy if i could get some where 160 that is what the stock corvettes were running when i was there in august

Im sure its possible to hit 160mph with a bolt-on gt just not sure if u can in a mile. Ive hit 150 on 3/4 mile stretch but i was going 75mph when i got to the straight away lol.

well if you think about it if im hitting 106 in the 1/4 with 3.55s so it may get close to that with 3/4 after that

True, i have 3.55 as well and this was all in 4th gear. I think the bottom line is 4.10 will have quicker rpm climb and better top speed for the standing mile alotted. Weight and drag taken into account you will run outa power before gear with the 4.10s and will have a better ratio in 5th if u do try to go past 140-150mph-ish
